- [Slaves of Louisiana](https://www.laghs.com/registries/register-of-slaves-of-louisiana/): Register Slaves of Louisiana Register of Slaves who resided in Louisiana before the end of the Civil War and their descendants. For Louisiana, the end of the Civil War was the surrender of the last major Confederate command (the Trans-Mississippi Department under General Kirby Smith on 26 May 1865). If you believe that a Slave should be added to the register, please email melissa.collins@laghs.com with supporting documentation.
- [Order of Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle](https://www.laghs.com/get-involved/the-order-of-cavelier/): The Order Of Cavelier Sieur de La Salle The society’s highest award given for selfless service by any member whose actions have gone above and beyond; greatly benefited or protected the society or its mission to promote genealogy, heraldry, and history; and honors the sacrifices, service and memory of Louisiana’s first peoples and early colonists. Induction into the order includes a traditional French military-style medal with silk ribbon, certificate, and complimentary lifetime membership in the society.

Founding Fathers explored and governed settlements including Indigenous villages in the colony through Governor Bienville’s last term in 1743.
